Excelent! Academic but Readable. Suitable as textbook.
Of the many good books on the subject of intercultural communication and psychology, this hits a good balance of readability and academic soundness. Lots of good illustrations. Great text for college intercultural communication courses.

The Unknown Country: Death in Australia, Britain and the USA
Published in Hardcover by Palgrave Macmillan (May, 1997)
Authors: Kathy Charmaz, Glennys Howarth, and Allan Kellehear
Average review score:

Interesting cross-cultural sociology.
In this series of essays, writers in Australia, the United States, and Britain find show that there is not a "Western" way of death shared by all, but major variations reflecting the different experiences and cultures of the people. The Aussies' tough stoicism, the Americans' denial, the Brits' reserve not surprisingly find expression in the death experience, as in life. Elements such as patriarchy, patriotism, and race are also touched on here, as well as issues around AIDS, bioethics, and grief.
Very interesting, and accessible to the general reader.

Vertigo: A Memoir (The Cross-Cultural Memoir Series)
Published in Paperback by The Feminist Press at CUNY (August, 2002)
Authors: Louise Desalvo and Edvige Giunta
Average review score:

An engaging look at the impact of depression on a life.
Louise DeSalvo's memoir captivates the reader. It offers an honest portrayal of depression's effects on her life, as well as the lives of her more clinically depressed mother and sister.

DeSalvo transforms the pain of her life into art. This is an inspirational story that will allow you a deeper look into the effect depression has had on this brilliant Virginia Woolf scholar.

A Walk in Jerusalem: Stations of the Cross
Published in Paperback by Morehouse Publishing (February, 1998)
Author: John L. Peterson
Average review score:

The Stations made real.
I just came from the Maunday Thrusday Watch where I read A Walk in Jersusalem, Stations of the Cross as I watched in the Garden. The flow and pace took me along the path Jesus walked on the way to Gaulgatha. It made the story of the cursifiction come alive for me in a way it never has before, I was there watching, and following along as Jesus, then Simon carried the cross.

I would be especially good for a Lenten study or to walk your own "way of the cross". I know I will read and re-read this book many times.

Walk Your Talk: Grow Your Business Faster Through Successful Cross-Promotional Partnerships
Published in Paperback by Celestial Arts (October, 1994)
Author: Kare Anderson
Average review score:

A Flood of Great Ideas
This title belongs on your bookshelf, next to "Guerilla Marketing." The author has packed valuable information into this volume and done it very concisely, often breaking down the text to simple, easy-to-digest lists and bullets. Owners and managers of small stores will find this information easier to apply than the broad, theoretical stuff that fills most retail how-to's. Cross-promoting is often the easiest and least expensive way to take your business from the minor leagues to the majors. I've worked in and around marketing for years, and this book compares favorably to many that cost five times as much. (I noticed in Amazon.com's list of other buyers that one of the top authorities on nonprofit retailing bought this book!) After several decades working in and around marketing, I learned a lot myself.

The Way of the Cross
Published in Paperback by Daughters of st Paul (January, 1990)
Author: Hans Urs Von Balthasar
Average review score:

Version used by John Paul II in 1988
While Balthasar's Way of the Cross is structured for communal use and can be effectively used in that manner, I would consider this version as one excellent for individual devotions. Balthasar's reflections are thought-provoking and should not be rushed.

This version has the traditional stations. Each station begins with the traditional responsory. A single scriptural verse identifies the station, then a reflection of about one page is read - these are the reflections I don't want rushed. The station then ends with an Our Father and a verse of the Stabat Mater.

This version was used by John Paul II on Good Friday 1988. Recommendations don't get any better than that.
